Aman Spa New York
$$$Open the dictionary, look up the entry for “urban sanctuary,” and you’ll find the Aman Spa New York right next to it. This luxurious temple to the body, with over 25,000 square feet spread across three floors, is dedicated to wellness and physical optimization. It's a sumptuous space, with a moody peacefulness—Japanese minimalism at its finest with a dash of New York quiet-luxury thrown in—and a pocket of very necessary respite in the concrete jungle of Manhattan. For locals, the spa is the perfect daycation destination, thanks to the two signature Spa Houses—one centered around a marble-clad hammam; the other, an Eastern European banya (wooden sauna)—where you can spend the day rotating between various therapies in the adjoining double treatment room, followed by dips in hot and cold outdoor plunge pools on your very own private terrace. The indoor pool is one of the best in Manhattan: 65-feet long and never more than five-feet-deep, surrounded by fireplaces and poolside chaises.

Spa Diane Barriere at Fouquet’s New York
$$$ |Readers' Choice Awards 2023, 2024
For years, Hotels Barrière has spread a uniquely French sense of luxury and opulence to each and every one of its celebrated properties, and Hôtel Barrière Fouquet’s New York, the group’s first location in the US, is no exception. Tucked inside a historic building on an unassuming street in Tribeca, the hotel has quickly become a favorite among fashionable Manhattanites, who frequent its stylish lobby, restaurant, and of course, spa. With just five treatment rooms, Spa Diane Barrière has a very intimate feel, but its sauna, steam room, indoor pool, and state-of-the-art fitness center by DOGPOUND ensure visitors need not sacrifice any of their go-to amenities. The spa boasts a desirable selection of facial and treatments, including the age-defying Ultimate Glow Facial and the restorative Jet Lag Remedy, all of which were created in partnership with Biologique Recherche. Those who prefer traditional massage can choose from calming, therapeutic, and performance options, in addition to the Diane Barrière Signature Massage, lymphatic drainage, and Mother to Be massage. Plus, all treatments at Spa Diane Barrière can be “enhanced” with a Biologique Recherche scalp massage, gemstone collagen mask, nourishing foot treatment, and more.

Remedy Place
Remedy Place, one of New York City’s newest—and arguably most cutting-edge—wellness destinations, has made a name for itself with its celeb-loved ice baths, but it’s much more than a mere haven for the latest and greatest health trend. In fact, the entire ethos of Remedy is one of community, and it’s the driving force behind a brand-new social self-care category. The sleek and monochromatic space, located in the heart of Flatiron, is a hub for innovative treatments and offerings, but it’s also a place to gather, heal, and relax together. Settle into a custom couch and watch a movie while getting an IV drip alongside your partner, catch up with a friend in the infrared sauna, or challenge a coworker to join the “six-minute club” in an ice bath class. Other services include a session in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, cryotherapy, lymphatic compression, acupuncture, and more. Guests can visit Remedy Place for one-off sessions or opt for membership at the Flatiron club or at the soon-to-open and even larger Soho location.
- The Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtownhotel
The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown
$$$ |Readers' Choice Awards 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
As home to some of the world’s top financial firms and a critical stock exchange, New York’s Financial District may not exactly scream wellness, but the Four Seasons Downtown is well on its way to proving the neighborhood should. The spa and fitness center occupy an entire floor of the centrally located hotel and feature a spacious sun deck and a 75-foot indoor pool with breathtaking views of downtown Manhattan. The treatment menu is as comprehensive as it gets, with a wide range of massages—including the Executive Recharge, which is specifically designed to fit into the busy schedules of professionals and focuses on the neck and shoulders—and innovative facials using 111Skin, Augustinus Bader, Omorovicza, and Soveral products. The spa also offers one-on-one sessions with several resident healers, like facial masseur Gavin Mcleod-Valentine and others who specialize in crystal therapy, chakra clearing, sonic alchemy, hypnosis, and more.
- The Greenwich Hotelhotel
Shibui Spa at The Greenwich Hotel
$$$ |Gold List 2020, 2024
Readers' Choice Awards 2018, 2021
Tribeca’s Greenwich Hotel, a hip boutique property co-owned by Robert de Niro, may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about wellness, yet its intimate, Japanese-inspired spa has been a New York standout for well over a decade. At the center of Shibui Spa sits the roof of a 250-year-old wooden and bamboo farmhouse, imported from Japan, and beneath it, a swimming pool and lounge aglow with lanterns, a shiatsu room with a large tub, and a wet room. As transporting as Shibui Spa’s setting is, however, the real journey begins in the treatment room. The spa’s signature massage, the Drunken Lotus, uses customized strokes and hot sake-soaked towels to release tension and reinvigorate muscles, and a series of Onsen bathing rituals pair curated soaks with various massage techniques to support overall health and wellbeing. The spa is also home to a variety of innovative facials, including one which utilizes the products and methods of Augustinus Bader and others that feature Natura Bisse skincare.
- AIRE Ancient Baths New Yorkactivity
AIRE Ancient Baths New York
A true hidden gem in the middle of downtown New York, AIRE Ancient Baths is tucked away in a former textile factory on an unassuming corner of Tribeca’s Franklin Street, but through its doors awaits the ultimate opportunity to unwind. Soaring ceilings and brick walls usher visitors through the lobby and down into a cavernous, candlelit, subterranean oasis of thermal baths, saltwater pools, and relaxation rooms. Each of the six thermal baths boasts a different temperature, be it hot, cold, warm, or ice, so spa-goers of every preference and variety can bathe as the Romans, Greeks, and Ottomans did centuries earlier. And while spending time dipping from pool to pool is retreat enough for many, guests can also choose from a number of treatments and rituals, like an ancient argan massage, a Himalayan salt scrub, a warm amethyst crystal massage, or an antioxidant-rich wine bath.
- Graydon Herriott/Othershipspa
Othership Flatiron
Othership’s Flatiron location is just blocks away from the Empire State Building, but the minute you step inside you're transported to a world away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. The expansive 7,000-square-foot oasis with cavernous ceilings includes a 90-person performance sauna, six of the coldest commercial ice baths in North America, and an amphitheater-style tea room centered around a fireplace. But what sets Othership apart from your typical bath house is its guided wellness experiences that combine breath work, aromatherapy, visualizations, somatic movement, live music, and group “shares.” The 30 different group class options fall into three categories—labeled up, down, and all around—each designed for energy, relaxation, or emotional connection. In the evenings, longer social programming offers a more party-like atmosphere with louder music and guided conversations to encourage sober, screen-free community building. As such, Othership’s “journeyers,” as their loyal members are called, are often sober-curious and interested in forming meaningful emotional connections.
- QC NY Spaactivity
QC NY Spa
After the treatment is where QC NY really shines. In fact, I'd almost say you can skip a treatment altogether and just get a day pass, which gives all-day access to all the impressive water and thermal facilities. We're talking multiple sauna rooms, Vichy showers, foot baths, steam baths, and the main showpiece, the outdoor spa pools, which have various jetted and water massage features and epic skyline views. Post-treatment refreshments include dried fruit and nuts, but otherwise you have to buy food and drinks from the cafe, which is overpriced with food that's pretty "meh." Robes are fluffy and the locker rooms have basic bath products, lotion, and Dyson hair dryers—a nice upscale touch. For a quick “island getaway” from Manhattan—QC Spa New York is the only outdoor spa in the city that’s open year-round, making it a sweet escape in any weather—rain, snow, or the treacherous city heat.
- The Dominick Hotelhotel
Sisley-Paris Spa at the Dominick
$$ |Readers' Choice Awards 2017
Perched upon a busy corner of SoHo, the Dominick Hotel may be known for its desirable location and proximity to many beloved downtown haunts, but the hotel’s lavish Sisley-Paris Spa has also made it one of New York’s most sought-after wellness destinations. The spa has a full slew of wellness amenities, including a steam room, sauna, Himalayan salt room, hammam, and outdoor terrace for guests to enjoy, but the real draw is its wide-ranging menu of treatments. All featuring the prestigious Sisley-Paris product line, skincare services like the Phyto-Aromatic Facial and Black Rose Facial offer relaxing journeys that target signs of aging and fatigue to deliver immediate results. The Stone Soother Massage, meanwhile, helps visitors experience total and deep relief with the help of water-heated basalt stones and Swedish massage technique, and the Couple’s Deluxe Massage offers custom side-by-side treatments along with a special jacuzzi experience and bottle of Prosecco. The Sisley-Paris Spa also has several body rituals that are unique to the property, including The Dominick Honeybee Ritual, which features a body mask made with honey from the hotel’s own honeybee hive, followed by an energizing scrub and full-body massage.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, New York

Readers' Choice Awards 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
Known for its floor-to-ceiling windows and sweeping views of Central Park and the Hudson River, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental draws inspiration from Asian wellness tradition and modernizes it for the 21st-century New Yorker. Located on the 35th floor of the Columbus Circle hotel, the space features a gorgeous vitality pool, an Oriental tea lounge, an amethyst-crystal steam shower, and a custom-built Thai yoga studio. A visit to The Spa at Mandarin Oriental may include a Diamond Cocoon Experience Facial, which uses an innovative prebiotic treatment to strengthen and protect skin, or an Oriental Essence massage, which fuses various traditional movements and therapies to treat the whole body and release tension. Those in search of a total moment of reprieve can even enjoy the Digital Wellness Escape, a restorative head, eyes, neck, shoulders, hands, and feet treatment designed to ease the stress and strain that comes from our digital devices.

Guerlain Spa at The Plaza
$$$ |Readers' Choice Awards 2018, 2023, 2024
The esteemed French House of Guerlain—one of the oldest fragrance, cosmetics, and skincare brands in the world—has long called New York its second home, but it wasn’t until 2018 that it made the move uptown from the Waldorf Astoria to the iconic Plaza Hotel. There, just steps away from Fifth Avenue and Central Park, the Guerlain Spa offers city-dwellers and tourists alike the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City with its renowned services. Guests can indulge in Guerlain’s signature Royal Honey Repair & Renew Facial, which uses the brand’s famed Abeille Royale product line to aid in skin reconstruction and smoothing, or an Impériale Relaxing Massage, which harnesses Guerlain’s signature massage method and uses lotion scented by the brand’s Eau de Cologne Impériale fragrance.

Spa de La Mer at The Baccarat Hotel
$$$ |Gold List 2020
Readers' Choice Awards 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
Few names evoke luxury quite like heritage skincare brand La Mer, so it’s only fitting that the line’s debut New York City spa be housed in a hotel with a similar reputation for extravagance: The Baccarat. Though the crystal-filled hotel is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, just one step inside the decadent Spa de La Mer will send a wave of tranquility and relaxation over every visitor. Although the expansive checkered, marble-tiled pool is the most obvious source of water at this gorgeous spa, hydration remains the focal point of every treatment. The La Mer Miracle Broth Facial harnesses the power of the brand’s coveted Miracle Broth to optimize skin’s performance and bring it back to its healthiest state, and The La Mer Body Treatment combines shiatsu, acupressure, and Swedish massage techniques to enhance circulation, balance energies, and leave skin soft and smooth. The spa’s newest treatment, a 90-minute Red Carpet Facial, meanwhile, erases signs of aging with a revolutionary peptide complex that blocks muscle micro-contractions, resulting in a temporary, Botox-like effect.

The Spa at Hotel Chelsea
$$ |Hot List 2023
The newly added spa and fitness center are located on this iconic hotel’s hidden gem of a rooftop: panoramic view of the New York skyline spans from the Empire State Building to the Edge and peeks out from the wildflower garden populated with busy honey bees. This inspired framing of the city that never sleeps serves as the tranquil backdrop of the spa, which offers a traditional Swedish sauna, hot stone massages, and Reiki therapy. Treatment names like The Cure for those who swear, “I'm never drinking again,” pay further homage to the hotel’s frenzied past. The passionate youthfulness here and the spa’s holistic, restorative aura might seem like odd bedfellows, but the chemistry between the two enriches rather than contradicts the overall vibe of cool, refined, New York-ness. Even if you haven’t booked a stay, the spa also takes appointments from non-guests.

The William Vale
$$ |Readers' Choice Awards 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
The William Vale launched its buzzy spa this year for the quintessential New Yorker winter getaway with views of the Manhattan skyline and in the heart of Williamsburg's vibrant neighborhood. Guests can now book an outdoor panoramic barrel sauna all to themselves on the outdoor deck year-round. Each sauna comes with a deep-soaking cedar hot tub—go back and forth at your own pace from the sauna to the cold, then quickly pop into the hot tub to warm up again.
